SciFriday: Beware Of Tribbles In Next Star Trek Movie

Oprah Winfrey will play a Klingon?

Now, this is an interesting development. Many famous and not so famous actors and actresses have had cameos and guest rolls on all Star Trek movies and television series. Few are of fame and caliber of Oprah Winfrey.

But the article is all about how the smallest rumor can get started by an online post. Then how feverishly fast it goes viral and out of control.

Meg In A Red Shirt? Seth MacFarlane Wants Star Trek

This might be a good thing. While I love Family Guy, I am a long time, die-hard trek fan.  What's more is that was thinking just a few days ago how kool it would be for J.J. Abrams to do a cartoon, and for Seth MacFarlane to do something like Star Trek.  Almost creepy that I would find this article, but hey I could have heard it on the news and thts what gave me the idea.

First Contact Battle Scene

One of the best scenes ever from Star Trek, and certainly one of my favorites. I think it's powerful and inspiring.

First Contact - Hollywood Disclosure

I'd never seen this before, and I'm not sure if its part of a series or documentary yet to be broadcast.  Check it out.

R.I.P. Kenickie

John Travolta & Marilu Henner Remember Costar Jeff Conaway

It was an age of innocense, I was 15.  I was with the first real love of my life at a crowed movie theater the summer of 1979. I had no idea what this movie named "Grease" was about. It showed that kids hadn't changed much since the 50's. It had a perfect blend of story and music, music that became popular, even to this day.

We were introduced to a myriad of gedre items that would stand then test of time into the 21st century.   Like "Sandra D", "Beauty School Dropout", and my favorite "hicky from Kenickey ... like a Hallmark Card, when you only care to send the very best".

The rest is history.  R.I.P. Kenickie!

Why I love Fairly Legal

Having watched all the episodes of Fairly Legal Season 1, I can say outright that it's a phenomenal show. When the USA Network began advertising Fairly Legal, I was drawn to it simply because of Sarah Shahi. I liked her in "Life" where she played...Read full article at Why I Love Fairly Legal.

Charlie Sheen Commits Career Suicide

My mother always taught me to never wish bad things on anyone. But I think the public's good graces for Charlie Sheen are reaching the end. While I am not a fan of Two And A Half Men, I liked most of his movies. But enough already with this clown. We should expect better of celebrities, just as we do professional athletes, public servants, and corporate leadership. Social Responsibility Charlie, did you skip that class in acting school?

Many of us hard core Science Fiction fans are fighting hard to keep Fringe from being canceled, while CBS somehow keeps Two And A Half Men going despite all the negative things Sheen has done. It's a classic example of how flawed the Nielsen Ratings system is. They've never asked me what I watch, and I wonder how many families are being asked to participate by watching shows like Two And A Half Men and American Idol. Worse yet, how many unknown ways are they inflating the ratings.

Sorry, maybe this should have gone on my RANT blog.

Leonard Nimoy Confirms Return To Fringe

Once again, Leonard Nimoy is coming out of retirement. This time to reprise his role of William Bell on Fringe. This is like a page from artistic history, when he (Spock) died in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and was reborn in Star Trek II: The Search for Spock. From last nights episode of Fringe, the storyline would appear to be center around William Bell being reanimated or brought-back-to-life by Walter. I can see the Fringe writers inserting Spock's famous line from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country into the storyline of Fringe. When the worst seems inevitable, William Bell will say "I've been dead before". Wouldn't that be a hoot?

Fringe – Is Alt-Olivia Pregnant?

This could be the biggest twist of the series. Having said that I hope Fringe doesn't do a "Battlestar Galactica" where loyalties, the good guys, and the bad guys change more often then the weather.

J.J. Abrams' reaction to Fox moving Fringe to Fridays

Fringe fans everywhere are anticipating new Fringe episodes. What fans are not liking is Fringe's move to Friday night, typically where shows go before they are put to rest. I'll admit that the first season of Fringe was the best, the move from New York to Vancouver has not been good for the show. One thing they could do is lighten it up a bit, with both humor and sunshine. Everything is dark, everything happens at night. People are bombarded with negative vibes all day long - real life stuff. Maybe the fans would appreciate a show, one they have grown to love, to lighten up some. Doomsday doesn't have to be the overshadowing climax.

At the beginning of Season 2, fringe turned the corner from fresh and exciting to complicated. People can say anything they want about Star Trek. It's been around for 44 years. Even it's own spin-offs made the fatal mistake of getting too complicated. They also went from a story being told in 42 minutes to the ongoing saga, soap opera style.

So here's a suggestion for the J.J. Abrams and crew, go back to the 42 minute story. Keep it simple. You have to make the story simple enough that a non-fan can tune in and understand what is going on. Star Trek TOS and TNG did that. It's probably the last Science Fiction show that did. Take a literary note.
